"Getting it Done Challenge" December 2013

Let's review my November list to see how I did...

MY NOVEMBER LIST 2013

1. Complete more charity quilts.
I took a break from these since I ran out of batting supplied by the community quilters to work on some Christmas gifts.
2. Complete 3 customer quilts (one long armed, one commissioned baby quilt)

3. Work on our Hawaiian lap quilt, needle turn appliqué when travelling. 3 are complete now and working on 4th. Just finished green one this month. It's called pineapple.
4. Work on in laws quilt.
I am almost done the top. Just need to add the borders. Here is one of the 2 rows I added.

5. Work on first son's t-shirt quilt.
Bought the interfacing to put behind the t-shirts.

Added to November's list:
6. Make a sling bag for my niece for Christmas. Done

7. Make 1 pillow case for birthday present and use as gift wrap. Done

8. Long arm quilt my Mom's winter wall hanging. Done.

Here is my December list:
1. Complete my in-laws star queen size quilt.
2. Work on a lap quilt for my sister-in-law's wedding (Jan 3).
3. Work on charity quilts.
4. Work on our Hawaiian lap quilt when travelling over the holidays by finishing appliqué squares. 3 are done and 3 more to go. I am currently working on the 4th one.

I think my son's t-shirt quilt will have to go on January's list since I have December deadlines!

I will be linking this post with Judy Laquidara's post at Patchwork Times.

The first 3 will be for a lap quilt I am making for our house.
This one is called Bread fruit.
This one is called Maile.
This one is called Pineapple.

This one is called Kukui. I will be using this one to practice long arm quilting.

Welcome Blogathon Canada!

Hi, my name is Audrey. I live in St. Catharines, Ontario. I am a wife and a mom of 2 teenage boys. I am a teacher by day and quilter by night.

I am also an avid blog reader and write weekly/monthly blogs. I am thrilled to be a part of Blogathon Canada! I blog to keep a record of the things I have accomplished and to have goals to strive for each week/month. I find it keeps me organized and focused. I love reading blogs to see the wonderful works of fellow quilters.

I am a relatively new quilter. I purchased a used long arm machine, which I named Glory Be, just over a year ago. Previous to that I had only had started piecing and making quilts for 3 years, although I have known how to sew since I was 10 yrs old.

I started quilting because my sister and mom quilt. I also thought it would be nice to make lap quilts for my 9 nieces and nephew when they turn 16 yrs old.

I love the whole process of quilting and have even started to offer long arm quilt services to family and local quilters. My business is called Glory Be Quilting Niagara. My goal is to offer reasonable prices and use the opportunity of owning a long arm to help people get those WIPs off their list and into the done pile. I also want to give back to the community by quilting for local charities. I do this through the LQS (local quilt shop). This group chooses a charity to quilt for. The ladies make the tops and bottoms of these quilts and I get the opportunity to put them together on my long arm. I am also part of a church group that makes prayer quilts. I quilt and offer my long arm services to complete these prayer quilts.

Here are pictures of a sample of quilts I have completed.

Here are some of the community charity quilts I have completed on the long arm.

Here are a couple recent commissioned customer baby quilts.

Adding to my quilting skills, I recently picked up needle turn appliqué in Maui, Hawaii. I love this dimension I have added to my quilting repertoire. It has made me try custom quilting on my long arm as well. Here are a few samples of recent blocks that I have done.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Please visit the other blogs in the Blogathon Canada tour.

WIP ( what I am working on)

Nov. 18 to 24, 2013

I am working on a few things:
- a winter wall hanging on the long arm, Glory Be, using a snowflake pantograph graph.
✂️piecing a queen quilt for my in-laws - aiming for a Christmas finish
-continue completing smaller community quilts.

Here are some pics:
Getting ready to put on "Glory Be".
Skates on winter wall hanging.
Sled on winter wall hanging.
Part of the star quilt.

Two baby quilts in 2 weeks.

Just finished the second of two commissioned baby quilts. I love how they both turned out. The fronts are cotton and the back is cotton flannel. I like putting the flannel on the back. It is so soft.
My long arm machine found its happy place. No tension issues at all.
Strawberry Shortcake panel used for this one.

Baby quilt fabric

My costumer went with the bunny family fabric with flannel backing.

I have prepped the top with a carrot border and added fabric it the back so it is read for the long arm. I do have to get some binding fabric yet.
